We humans are generally the same. But, what gives us our individuality are our own uniqueness, character and personality. And that every action that we do equates to our being.
A few days ago, our professor asked us to draw whatever things or figures that represent our world. After which, my partner and I would compare our works from each other. And describe everything that we see or view of each other’s illustration. In general, my partner says that his illustration reflects of him being a nature lover since he depicted a scene from nature. Because he says that we are all connected with Mother Nature. That everything we do against her will certainly affect us all. Eugene’s illustration is more organic in symbolism. In Eugene’s drawing, he included the sun. The sun was bright and would probably mean of enlightenment and optimism. I think it also means of hope towards other people, such as serving as a niche of hope toward his friends. His drawing also includes this wide blue ocean. Probably it represents his wideness of character. It also represents his open-mindedness – of being able to understand things under every circumstance. Maybe it also signifies his erratic emotions. Because like the waters of the ocean, he can be calm and peaceful at times, yet raging and roaring in the next. And this ocean separates two land masses in the middle. One of which has mangroves and other plants. These mangroves serve as shelter and food for creatures, just as Eugene is comforting to much of his friends and other people. Maybe the mangroves also represent Eugene’s stability of character, of his strength to withstand whatever storm, or the angry waves of the ocean that would come and hit against him. He also believes that these mangroves symbolize his unity with nature. And the other land mass has nothing in it. A barren piece of land that serves as a reminder for him that from earth we were made and to earth we will return. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The land mass also represents journey. While my drawing in the other hand, generally speaks of my life as an art, and that it obviously suggests of my inclination to arts. My drawing is more of a modern, technological, artsy-fartsy type than with Eugene’s. Because everything around me is art, that art is a profound expression of ourselves. The globe that looks like a disco ball with an equal sign means of my belief of equality. The disco ball can also literally mean that I like having fun, like perhaps enjoying time with my friends. The open book above the computer monitor is the representation of my fondness for learning. It may also mean that my life is an open book. I may or may not share everything about myself though. The computer monitor is my sort of representation of my dependency on technology. But I don’t really rely on them every time. It may also mean of my yearning for more knowledge. Yes, blame it on the Internet too. And the books from which the monitor stands also represents knowledge. Because I firmly believe in that saying, that knowledge is power. My drawing also has a pile of compact disc cases and a cd underneath the monitor. This now shows my love for music, I listen to almost every genre. Music serves as my escape during those down times and stress. The brush, the pencil and the Doric column are still part of the art as my life. They serve as pillars for my being. The brush helps me touch and color other people’s lives and share with them the joys of life. The pencil then represents my being, which we can draw lines and commit errors in our lives, yet we erase those errors by learning from our failures. We are not perfect, we commit errors every once in a while. That is why they invented erasers because we are not perfect. The column in the other hand, it can mean or represent my strength as a person. Because these columns may look stable yet they are still subject to age and may wear out in time. They may look colossal but every storm that my come their way slowly weathers them out. But still at the end of every storm stands a column, slightly weathered and worn, yet they still look stable and able to lift whatever weight is placed above them.
Both illustrations are obviously representations of our worlds and they truly reflect our beings. We may have different worlds but we can see how interconnected each person is when they try to share a bit of themselves towards us. Each illustration also shares a bit of our own philosophies in life. From which we learn to understand each and every being we may encounter. And that the profundity of our being lies in our character.
