Equality and Acceptance

Equality and acceptance, in relation to Martin Luther King Junior’s - “I have a dream.”
We homosexuals dream of that day when we will be totally accepted by the society. That is, if hatred and discrimination will be eradicated from the people who believe that straight and gay people cannot live together in harmony.
We all have fought for our survival in this world and I know that all of us will fight for our right to equality. Some say that unity between gay and straight men will only happen if hatred would be transformed into love, and discrimination into acceptance. But how would this happen if there is hatred and discrimination between a gay man and another gay man? Yes, there is such a thing. I myself would testify to this, that I’ve been judged and discriminated by someone who’s been living the same lifestyle as mine. They’ve been eyeing me of my acts, of my life. This now concluded to my questioning of such utopia that gay men have been dreaming about.
How could we be free from the oppression that heterosexuals do towards us when even some of the people of our own sexuality judge us for who we are?
“Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.”
We should then instill in our minds and in our hearts that no matter what or who we are, whatever one’s sexuality is, whatever one’s religion is, whatever one’s way of life is, that all of us are equal. All of us has a claim for equality and right to be recognized, to be respected, and to be treated as a human co-existing with fellow humans. That judgment, discrimination, and hatred has no place for a person who believes in peace.
“That all men are created equal…… I have a dream today.”
“I Have A Dream”by Martin Luther King Jr.
